A lil bit About Me...I am an internet writer, editor and volunteer. I happily reside on the west side of Cleveland, OH with my husband Virgel and pampered kitty named Cole. When I'm not creating magic on the computer, I enjoy singing in my church's choir, volunteering at my local hospital and competitive bowling. I am truly blessed to have friends who are young and old, male and female. I am unique and fabulous. I run a business page on Facebook, devoted to helping new internet writers and editors and anyone wanting help with their resume, cover letter, website or blog. In the spirit of the WRP, I hold free discussions there on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm est. You are invited to come join us!! The World Revolution Project is all about everyday public service activities. Why do I feel so strongly about it? Why am I here at all? Because I see great potential in this movement. There are so many great ways to give and receive help on the Internet, but most people don't utilize them because they either don't know these opportunities exist OR they feel powerless OR they think such things are too expensive. The best ways to make a difference are free and easy. I've seen them scattered across the net, hiding in corners. This site is a place to bring together all these great services and ways to help and put them under one roof...simply awesome. But even more to the point, this movement is about taking time every day to do little things that make a huge difference. Whether that be activities on SocialVibe or never letting a door close behind you... My favorite causes are Keep-A-Breast and Susan G. Komen. I've had one friend die of breast cancer (Michelle), and another treated for breast cancer, (Heidi) - both contracted the disease under the age of 35. It feels like a serial killer who murdered one friend and is stalking another. So I do all I can to support organizations doing research and supporting detection and prevention in young women to keep Heidi here and prevent anyone else from losing a best friend to the disease. Taken from a post on my personal blog (originally published there on August 13, 2009). Why volunteer? It’s a simple question with lots of answers. My mother used to ask me why I spend a few hours a week doing volunteer work when I could be using that time to earn more money. While that reasoning may be logical, the benefits of donating time and talent far outweigh any lost wages. This is why I volunteer. This is why you should too. Because it feels good. Lending a hand to someone in need, offering your time and talent without expecting anything in return is one of the best ways to give and show love. As a result, you will feel one of the best natural “highs” life has to offer. Because it’s a good way to make friends. It is said “there’s nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.” It could also be said there are no stronger friendships than those made through volunteer activities. There’s just something about people who come together in the spirit of giving that creates lasting bonds. Because it’s great experience. By donating your time, you can give your resume or job application a gold star. Why? Because you’re showing a potential client or employer that you value what you do over how much you get for it. You can give yourself another gold star by doing volunteer work in your chosen field (ie, volunteering at a hospital if you want to eventually be a nurse). It’s true…volunteering can help you earn more money. Reference: “there’s nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.” Anon. |
